The legal battle over gay marriage in California turned on Monday to whether the state's top court could strike down a change in the state constitution that was approved by voters.

Just skimming the numbers it looks to me like Proposition 8 passed in a broad arc from the north coast, around to Escondido and Poway, down through east county and into the San Diego communities south of the 8. Looks like gay marriage is something ethnic Democrats and deep suburban Republicans agree on. Is this a useful issue in the future, though?
